Light Bulb That’s Been Burning Since 1901 Is Still On

We trust no one is going to hit the switch between now and next Saturday (June 18) at Fire Station 6 in Livermore, Calif.

Not with the city’s Centennial Bulb set to mark its 110th year in (almost) continuous use that day.

there’s a light bulb in that firehouse that was first switched on in 1901. Since then, with the exception of a brief period in 1903, a week or so in 1937 and some power outages between then and 1976, the light has been on.

The light’s longevity, Owens added, can partly be attributed to a very thick filament and the relatively lower power level supplying it.

An Environmental Science and Research study found that some people may experience short-term anxiety if consuming more than 3mg of caffeine daily for each kilogram of body weight – about four cups of tea a day for adults.

Energy drinks to go under regulators’ microscope

A review of caffeinated energy drink guidelines has been announced on both sides of the Tasman after warnings that the drinks can cause irritability, anxiety and dizziness.

For most healthy adults, up to 400mg of caffeine in total a day – equivalent to four lattes – appeared to have no ill-effects, but there was evidence caffeine consumed by pregnant women could affect the growth of babies.

The review group will also hear from the intergovernmental committee on drugs, on the issue of mixing alcohol with caffeinated energy drinks.

An international study found that mixing highly caffeinated energy drinks with alcohol increased a person’s chances of making rash decisions, such as driving drunk. There are also reports of intoxicated people collapsing as the effects of energy drinks wear off.

I (Jon Fitch) spent last Nov. training in the Army MACP. All their soldiers go through this program. Going through this process has given me a much better understanding of what our military goes through and an even deeper respect for our troops.

Yes we got shocked pleanty. It hurta a bit but we are tuff guys and dont want to show any pain.

Yes , at this point in our training we are not allowed to strike. We do a similar drill later with High Impact Suits on and basically its a free for all. The Idea of this drill is to show the soldiers how important grappling is. Many people become over reliant on their weapons. The fact is many times you do not have enough time to react and access your weapons and as we experienced side arms are very likely to malfunction. Also soldiers are never alone, they have battle buddies to support them.
